Taunted At The DMV Like Fake Fall In The Carolinas

-

Much like the fall weather teases Carolinians, I have felt taunted by our local DMV. I am yet to hear a good story come out of the Department Of Motor Vehicles, yet I find myself there more than most people.

If you're new around here, welcome! If you've been a fan of our family's blog, then you know we host an Aupair from Colombia. An Aupair is someone from another country, between the ages of 18-26, who comes to live with you and attend school in exchange for room, board, and child care. They also provide your family with a great deal of culture in which to expose your children.

Although hosting an Aupair is convenient and consistent care for your little ones, there is also a learning curve for the Aupair and the host family alike. This is our second Aupair (our first during COVID times) and we are still learning.

Getting our new Aupair fully situated this time around has been a lengthy process. More specifically, getting her a driver's license. In my last blog, I told you all that she was about to take her written drivers test, and I am happy to report, she passed! So the next logical step for her was to take the road test. BOGEY!

When I say, this has been the most challenging part of our journey, I speak the cold hard truth. I told you all on my Mommyhood 2 Menopause Podcast that her original driving instructor fell asleep in the car (among other things), and we had to start from square one. However, when we showed up at the DMV on-road course day, it seemed history was about to repeat itself.

On October 11th, we were turned away from the DMV and told that they were not currently doing road course tests, even though we were able to secure an appointment online. Not only that but we were also informed that Aupair Laura would not be eligible for the road test waiver because she was not a US citizen. The reason we were given was because of Covid 19, which to me didn't make sense as just days earlier the government announced that it was going to open our borders to tourists. I questioned the man's knowledge of what he said was a recent email his office received from Raleigh and was completely shut down and told to leave.

After hearing of other Aupairs who had no issue taking their road test later that week, I decided to call Raleigh to get some answers for myself. The woman I spoke to was lovely. She answered all of my questions and said that the man who gave me that information was incorrect. That in fact, the last email to go out to offices was reinstating the road course test as of Oct 1st. So she had no knowledge of what I assume the man made up.

Luckily, after securing another appointment the following week at a different location, Laura was able to take her test! I remember walking in with her and saying "Girl, come hell or high water, you are taking your test today!"

I am happy to report that Aupair Laura, not only got to take her test that day but... SHE PASSED!

This Coke's For You

Cheers to getting life back on track!

I can't begin to tell you how many DM's and messages I have received asking "Where my Fashion Friday Try On Sessions have gone?" Well, truth be told, I've been slacking. Mainly because we've spent the good majority of this year moving and dealing with buying and selling a home.

As I've told you, we accidentally bought a house earlier this year and moved in mid-summer after completing some construction (to see the full transformation check out my family page). Although we are completely unpacked and moved in, I am still putting some finishing touches on a couple of bedrooms and remodeling our laundry room.

However, with things slowing down I am now finding time to work on the fashion side of my blog again. Thus, Fashion Fridays are BACK! In case you missed it, I posted a Fab'rik Birkdale Try-On Session last week (which I will repost again this Friday). I also shot some of my favorite new arrivals for you all and this Spanx / T-shirt combo is my Fab'rik Birkdale "Look Of The Week"! With fall weather around the corner, I am feeling my streetwear roots and bringing back army jackets (The Star Alys) and sneaker wedges. I finished this funky ensemble with a pair of gold and leather star cut earrings from Fab'rik Birkdale as well.

If you are looking for trendy new looks to dress up your fall wardrobe Fab'rik Birkdale has the streetwear, business casual and cocktail attire you need in your life!

Be A Boss Not A B*tch

-

Let me just start with a great quote. "You can always tell who the strong women are. They are the ones building each other up instead of tearing each other down". Plain and simple if you are the malicious type, I have NO USE FOR YOU!

It truly makes me sick that there are women in business that try to take others down when in reality working together would have been MUCH more beneficial. I have been dealing with a lot of negativity in my life lately and it has been stifling. To have anxiety about simple daily tasks is ridiculous. If you are someone who finds yourself avoiding people in the hallways or hiding in your office, that is no way to live.

You don't have to roll over for those people anymore. My advice to a woman giving another woman a hard time is to "be a boss, not a b*tch." If you are currently medaling in someone else's life take a good long look in the mirror and ask yourself what it is about that person that aggravates your demons? Are you jealous? Are you longing for something they have? Or is there something going on in your personal life that you are projecting onto them? Either way, it's time for some self-reflection and prayers.

Bottom line, handle YOUR business and don't be green with envy when others can handle theirs. Brush up on your skills and be the boss you were born to be because respect is earned not given.

While some of you reflect on those words of wisdom enjoy this boss babe look. White blazers for summer are all the rage and these wide leg cropped business pants are a perfect pair. Believe it or not, you can find these trousers everywhere from Macy's to Dicks Sporting Goods.

I scored these Zara earrings in the airport flying back from Italy and matched this look with my favorite heels and Celine bag!

All Business In 2019!

-

Happy New Year Friends! I can honestly say I have never been happier to wave goodbye to a year. 2018 was a tough year for my family and we are hoping for things to get off to a great start in 2019!

This will be the year of focus for me. My long term goals this year are to focus on my family and my radio career. You hear stories all the time about how challenging it can be to balance both, and as a working Mom, I can attest to that!

I have always been a big believer in vision boards and I am working on mine this week to include growing our radio family and putting even more resources into baby Cash's speech in 2019.

Vision boards have always helped me keep sight of the things I've wanted to achieve and keep them fresh in my mind. It is so easy to get caught up in life and distracted by drama. You know what they say? "Out of sight. Out of Mind." Vision boards help me visually see what I need to keep myself motivated!

Of course, also included on my vision board this year as cute looks for the young, busy Mom on the go! I love this business casual inspired blazer from Nordstrom and Free people waffle thermal. I kept this look leaning more casual with a pair of destressed black jeans and leopard flat mules. Add a great necklace and my signature hoop earrings and I am ready to take on the world in 2019!

I hope you are too! Happy New Year!

I Guess We Have To Adult Today?

-

Ugh, it's Monday morning?!? Do we really have to adult today? The answer is unfortunately yes.

Luckily I am counting down the days until our show is on Christmas vacation. T-4 days! This is officially my last working Monday of 2017! Yippee!

So to celebrate I wanted to share this whole look with you. There is one thing specifically I love about this outfit. Of course, the dress itself is right on trend but the price of this adorable cold shoulder sweater dress is what is so unbelievable!

It's on clearance for $15!!!!

It's from Target and is a real showstopper. I will say this though, the dress does run a little big, so I would go down a size. I typically wear a small and I have on an XS here.

This dress would be perfect to go from a day at the office to a date night with the hubby.

Speaking of date night if you haven't seen MAC's new Snow Ball eye and lip kits for this holiday season, I have them on in this look as well! Great colors at a great price point. I have a whole blog dedicated to the kits on the "Face" tab of my blog, but I have also linked out to them below as well!

There are six different eyeshadows and three amazing lip shades per kit. Great stocking stuffers, but I know you will love them too!
